Iconic Campers - T2 VW Campervan Hire, Northumberland

Picture of one of the campers

Dorothy our VW T2 Bay Window Campervan was "born" in Brazil, shipped over to the UK and converted by Danbury in 2005.

She is only 6 years old and in immaculate condition. She has an "Aircooled" engine so has the looks and sound of the original 60's & 70's buses but is a little more reliable! With only 4 gears and no power steering she is the real deal!

She will sleep 2 adults comfortably on the "rock and Roll" bed which is a 6' Double. The roof pops up and can sleep up to 80kgs (2 small children or a small"ish" adult) For 2 couples we recommend hiring a Bell Tent (The Kombi Combo - which is £15.00 per day extra instead of £25.00 without the bus ) - which comes with extremely comfy airbeds and acts as a very spacious "spare room" especially useful if you find the perfect pitch only to return in your bus at the end of the day to find someone else has "discovered" it! - quote 'Classic Volks' to get the Bell Tent FREE!!

We also provide a 2 man pop up tent – it is a good storage room, as space in a bus is tight.

She is fully equipped and has a 2 ring gas hob and a grill and a cold water sink. Cath Kidston curtains and lots of kitchen essentials, melamine Emma Bridgewater Mugs, plates and bowls. Wine glasses (well plastics!) the all important bottle opener etc...

Cushion Picture

We have also put in copies of The Cool Camping Book, Tiny Campsites and the Campervan Cookbook, maps of Northumberland and The Scottish Borders, First Aid Kit, and lots of other non-essential essentials!

We would request that you drive no more than 700 miles in a 7 day rental.

VW campervans are not known, nor are they built for speed - but they are built for fun and are Guaranteed to put a smile on your face so, relax, take your time and enjoy the view!

EXTRA BITS AND BOBS PLEASE ASK ON BOOKING IF YOU WOULD LIKE THEM SO WE CAN HAVE THE VAN LOADED.

#

These bits and pieces are all included in the price, we won't make any extra hire charges for them but please ask us in advance.

  • Camping chairs

  • Booster seats, if required

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring?

As little as possible! Space is at a premium in a camper van. We recommend that you put all of your clothes into a squashy bag, or a strong plastic stackable box which can double up as a stool/table.

You will need:- cool clothes for hot days, warm clothes for cool days, waterproofs for wet days, Sun cream, Midge repellent and a good sense of humour!

Bedding - we supply 2 sleeping bags and liners and 2 towels and 2 pillows for free. If you would like more there is a small fee of £8.00 per person. If you need a little more comfort we will supply a mattress topper, bottom sheet, Duvet and 2 pillows for £20.00 per person per week.

Is she well equipped?

We hope VERY! knives, forks, spoons, teaspoons, chopping board and bread knife, sharp knife, the all important bottle opener, a flask, kettle, pots and pans, salt and pepper, a small amount of tea, coffee and sugar to get you started, and 2 - 5 of each of the following depending how many are in your party: plates, bowls, mugs, glasses (well plastics!), A fire extinguisher, a torch, The Campervan Cookbook, Tiny Campsite book, Cool Camping Book, a pack of cards and even a mini iron!! – but secretly I hope it will never be used – YOU ARE ON A BREAK! A Map of Northumberland, Map of Southern Scotland and a road Atlas first aid kit and lots more................

What if I break down?

She is very well maintained and we truly hope this doesn't happen. However sometimes it will happen and if it does she has full AA membership, roadside and relay. We hope that she will be mended as soon as is possible. If it is not possible we will try and find another similar vehicle for you. If we can't we will refund the price of the remaining days of your holiday.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU TAKE OUT ADEQUATE HOLIDAY INSURANCE
Do I need to change my car insurance?
No we arrange fully comprehensive insurance for 2 - 4 drivers so long as they meet our insurance criteria. You must bring proof of identity (see below) The hirer must be over 25 and under 70 years old. Have no more than two 3 point convictions within the past 3 years on their licence and have held their Full UK licence for at least 2 years.

What is acceptable as proof of identity?

right, brace yourself. Our insurers require all of the following................

  • driving licence including the counterpart. The counterpart is important because that's the bit where any endorsements or convictions are listed and our insurers absolutely insist on seeing it. If you have a photocard licence and no convictions you might not even realise that you have a counterpart but you do, it came with the photocard and we need to see it.
  • a recent (less than three months old) utility bill. The bill must be in your name and have the same address as your driving licence; it cannot be a bill for a mobile telephone. gas, water, electricty and tv licence are all acceptable forms of utility bill.
  • one other substantial form of identification. We suggest you bring your passport.

so to sum up what you should bring:

  1. driving licence
  2. driving licence counterpart
  3. recent utility bill
  4. passport

if you think that you are going to have difficulty producing any of these items call us as soon as possible; we have a huge list of different types of acceptable id.

What if i forget to bring my proof of identity?

Sorry, we simply won't be able to let you take the van. from time to time people forget to bring a seemingly insignificant piece of id, such as a recent utility bill, and we end up on the phone trying to plead a case with our insurers. it has never yet worked, they are absolutely resolute on this point; you must have all of the required forms of id listed above.

Can anyone else drive the van?

Any additional driver will need to provide all of the id listed above which we need to see sight of.

WHAT IS THE FUEL?

unleaded only!

When you collect your van it will have a full tank of fuel. We would like it to be returned with a full tank otherwise we will charge £50.00 which will be taken off your deposit. The nearest petrol station to here is in Coldstream - 4 miles or Wooler 9 miles

How fast can we go?

Take it easy, you are looking at a top speed of 60mph. It is perfect to cruise along at 55mph! They really aren't built for speed! It is all about relaxing and taking in the view. Do pull over from time to time if a queue is building up behind you as we want people to love us!

What does the van have?

bus facilities
  • cd player/radio.
  • dining table for four.
  • 12v cool box.
  • sink with electrically pumped cold water.
  • electric hook-up.
  • auxilliary battery (allows the buses to run electrical equipment for up to eight hours without a hook-up (or about ten seconds if you try running an electric fan heater - Please don't!).
  • storage cupboards. - pretty limited!
  • roof rack.
  • AA fleet break down cover, just in case.

optional extras
